Simon was trained as a Journeyman by the renowned Eminent Master Blacksmith Paul Allen and has qualifications to valify his work awarded by
the Worshipful Company of Blacksmiths, with whom he holds both Fellowship and Licentiate status.. Simon received the Paul Allen award for outstanding proficiency on the new entrants training scheme with the Rural development commission in 1998 and was reserve national champion Blacksmith for static ironwork in 2008 and 2009 and national champion Blacksmith in 2010 and 2012, he has consistently produced many show champion pieces.
The Thatching tools on this site were developed over many years with the grateful assistance of Rod Miller ( R.V Miller Thatching) and the national Society of Master thatchers.

RANGE OF TOOLS PRODUCED
All tools are hand-made from a medium carbon tool steel
our steel is sourced from a reputable supplier, re-claimed or scrap steel is never used.

  • Shearhooks, large (aprox 16" blade)
  • Shearhooks small (aprox 12" blade)
  • Sparhooks, standard shape or a more curved shape designed by a professional spar-maker.
  • Line or coarsing pins 20" long depth marked
  • Billhooks standard dorset pattern
  • Hanging ladder spikes.
  • Cripples
Please note: we no longer make leggate pads due to the rising cost of gas and raw materials.

How to order
Due to all tools being hand-made to order there is a lead time of three to four weeks.
Contact us by e,mail or telephone or by using the contact form at the bottom of this page.
We will need your telephone number,
E,mail and postal address
Let us know what you want to order and in the case of shearhooks and sparhooks whether they are to be
for left or right handed use.
We will give you an idea of delivery times and e,mail an invoice just prior to dispatch.
Payment can be made by bank transfer or paypal. We then post out with a national courier.
